2:30 PM: Late arrivals meeting point MNHA (Musée national d'histoire et d'art ), place du Marché aux Poissons

On Saturday you can discover and sketch the old town centre, the Grand Duke's Palace, the panoramic views from the old fortifications or the brand new UNESCO circuit under the guidance of some of our expert USKLUX members.

The USK meal will take place in one of the old breweries of the city.

6:30 PM: Drink & draw & group photo at the Rives de Clausen

 7 PM: USK meal at Big Beer Company, 12, Rives de Clausen

10 AM: Meeting in front of the MUSEUM DRÄI EECHELEN/ TROIS GLANDS 

Bus/train/tram station: RoutBréck-Pafendall or tram station: Philharmonie

On Sunday we start the day on the Kirchberg plateau, from where you can sketch the unique skyline of Luxembourg and the remarkable newer architecture of Luxembourg. From there you can take the funicular at the Routbréck-Pafendall station and walk to the Pfaffenthal public elevator, from where you can venture back into the city centre.

Les cimetières militaires à Sandweiler sont des lieux extraordinaires et impressionnants, invitant à la réflexion sur le passé, le présent et l'avenir.

Il y a un grand cimetière américain et, à deux pas de là, un cimetière allemand.

 

A notre sketchcrawl de juin vous aurez l’occasion de capter en dessins ces lieux exceptionnels, avec les belles floraisons de juin.

Soleil : munissez-vous d’un chapeau et crème solaire

Pluie : nous trouverons un endroit abrité dans le cimetière allemand

 

Les cimetières ferment leurs portes à 16:45h. Après nous pouvons aller pour un drink&draw dans un des cafés à Sandweiler.

From the Sandweiler interchange follow the signs 'military cemeteries' and then 'American Military Cemetery and Memorial'.

 

For those who need it we can organize carpooling from Auchan/Kirchberg at 1:30 pm - please contact us.

 

Sun: bring a hat and sun screen

Rain: we will find a sheltered place in the German cemetery

 

The cemeteries close their doors at 4:45pm. Afterwards we can go for a drink&draw in one of the cafes in Sandweiler.

Hello dear sketchers,

The weather is supposed to be pleasant this Sunday, and so we will take this opportunity to sketch in theparc in Merl-Belair.

Let's meet at the entrance of the parc on boulevard Pierre Dupong, opposite the Lycée Athénée, at 14:00 this Sunday  6 May 2018.

Sur un "lift" perchée

Depuis l'ouverture de l'ascenseur conçu par les architectes SteimetzDemeyer pour connecter la ville haute au Pfaffenthal, j'ai envie de dessiner le panorama exceptionnel qui s'ouvre à celui qui s'aventure, comme perché sur un plongeoir, jusqu'au bout de la passerelle.
Le samedi matin, était calme, il faisait beau mais frais, quelques touristes mais pas trop. Sur mon petit siège, je gênais un peu ceux qui voulaient faire une photo côté pont rouge, mais en dehors du panorama, ils étaient fascinés par le vertige sur plancher de verre. J'ai fait mon premier tiers de vue. C'était agréable avec les enfants, les curieux, toutes les langues parlées et les exclamations réitérées devant le spectacle panoramique.
Sur ma lancée, j'ai continué l'après-midi. Il y avait plus de monde et surtout, je dessinais le deuxième tiers en face de moi, le plateau de Kirchberg. Le soleil avait tourné, en fin de journée j'ai arrêté, il me manquait le dernier tiers avec le Bock. Les deux premier dessins se raccordaient à peu près bien.
Je voulais dérouler le paysage depuis les années 60 avec le pont rouge en retournant dans le passé jusqu'à la fondation de la ville que symbolise le promontoire du Bock. J'ai décidé de dessiner la dernière partie le lundi soir après le travail jusqu'à ce que la lumière ne suffise plus. 

Et voila que cette 3ème partie ne se raccordait vraiment pas bien.
Je voulais la recommencer samedi 28 avril, mais la foule de touristes était telle que je ne voyais plus du tout le paysage. Dépitée je suis rentrée, avec l'intention d'essayer ce dimanche matin 29 avril. A mon grand désespoir, en arrivant à 10h00, il y avait déjà, malgré la pluie un groupe de 20 personnes qui bouchaient entièrement la vue. J'ai attendu que le guide finisse sa prestation et me suis installée avant la nouvelle vague de touristes. Le trafic était encore dense mais je parvenais entre les personnes qui posaient systématiquement juste devant la partie de la vue que je dessinais à capter quelques informations visuelles à retranscrire, sans compter la pluie qui parsemait les vitres de ses gouttelettes déformantes, j'ai failli abandonner. Enfin, à 13h30 j'avais fini… le raccord n'est pas idéal, mais mieux que le précédent. Je suis descendue de mon perchoir et voici…

Open Doors at the Ministry of Culture

Last Saturday, we were invited to sketch at the Ministry of Culture at the occasion of the open doors of the Luxembourg institutions.

The Hotel des Terres Rouges is a beautiful building, filled with art. That day, it was also filled with music, courtesy of the pupils of the Conservatoire.
