USK international sketchcrawl in Luxembourg

The young USK Chapter of Luxembourg is happy to welcome fellow sketchers from the neighbouring countries to their first international USK meeting in Luxembourg City.

The weekend-long sketchcrawl will take place on 29-30th April 2017 and will be the occasion for all sketching aficionados to discover how "sketchable" the city is.

In collaboration with LUCA, we will make the city as welcoming and interesting as possible, with a map of some of the most interesting sketching points, a common dinner on Saturday evening and even one or more guided tours by an expert on all things Luxembourg.

Registration is free and can be made on Eventbrite. Those who wish to participate to the dinner, which will take place at the Big Beer Company in Rives de Clausen, can register there (registration for the dinner is compulsory).

Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience the city in a different way!

More details to come very soon...

UPDATE:

Meeting point: on Saturday 29th April at 10.00 at Cercle Cité, Place d'Armes

A réessayer.

Nous sommes ensuite allées boire un verre dans la cour du Kulturhuef, bavarder, partager nos impressions et expériences et se dessiner mutuellement.

Between the city and the countryside

It was a very busy weekend for Urban Sketchers Luxembourg, with not one but two sketchcrawls.

On Saturday, we attended the guided tour organised with Musee Dräi Eechelen and LUCA around the Adolphe bridge, or "Nei Bréck" (new bridge), as the locals call it. The bridge had been closed for renovations and to adapt the infrastructure for the future tram. It is great to have it back!

The tour was guided by Prof. Robert Philippart, who is a real expert on Luxembourg's history. While I wasn't able to hear all the information he provided (there was a big group of people and I was focused on my sketching), I did hear a few interesting tidbits, like for example the fact that the bridge's decorations were designed by craft workers as a way to promote their know-how, and not by artists or architects as is usually the case.

I have to admit that I was more interested in sketching our tour guide and group than the surroundings, particularly given the fact that the bridge is still covered with scaffolding.

There was a lot of enthusiasm for our sketching group among the crowd. Our guide was happy with the experience as well. Hopefully we will be able to repeat it in the future.

On Sunday we had our monthly outing, this time far from the crowds of the capital, in Grevenmacher, at the border with Germany.

It couldn't have been a more different sketchcrawl with wonderful weather and sedate Sunday pace.

It was very pleasant to sketch in the sun, observing the families enjoying their Sunday afternoon. A group of children popped by to see what I was doing, asking me where they were on my sketch.

The afternoon ended - how else? - around drinks on a terrace. Five ladies sketching and enjoying each other's company.

A little more about "Around the PONT ADOLPHE"

Impressions of this Saturday 1st April session with Pr Robert Philippart around the Pont Adolphe. A lot of people discovered the USK Luxembourg activists with admiration and interest.

city and countryside in one sketching weekend

Last weekend was a busy time for Luxembourg sketchers!
On Saturday we met for one of the guided tours by Prof. Robert Philippart  around the Adolphe Bridge (Pont Adolphe). This bridge, one of the emblematic features of Luxemburg, has spanned the Petrusse valley since 1903 and links the upper city with the Bourbon Plateau. The bridge has been reopened only recently after a long period of rehabilitation.
I faced a difficult choice between concentrating on my sketchbook or on the extremely well informed comments of our guide...

and why not try a sketch with no lines, just surfaces and blotches?
On Sunday we enjoyed the early spring and had a very relaxing sketchcrawl on the sun-drenched banks of the Mosel at Grevenmacher.

The new USK Luxembourg logo

Following the USK logo identity guide, the new USK Luxembourg logo refers to the typical skyline of Luxembourg City ans shows its main monuments: the Spuerkess tower, the Adolphe Bridge, the Gëlle Fra, the Cathedral, the Grand Ducal Palace, the St Michel Church and the Bock.
We hope you'll enjoy it!
